“While the time of wrapping up is already here, we would like to thank the 70,000 participants in the screenings, meetings, exhibitions, workshops of the festival, for having made this new edition of SERIES MANIA a huge success. A figure that brings us back to the attendance that the festival experienced before the constraints linked to the Covid, with one day less!
The online audience was also there with 255,000 visits (4 times more than last year) on the seriesmaniadigital.com platform and the official website.
This year again, with 56 series selected from 21 countries, including 29 world premieres, SERIES MANIA offered a veritable world tour of serial creation. If reality was this year's strong trend, it is also youth and hope that the juries have chosen to celebrate through Le Monde de Demain series (the first French series to win the Grand Prix in the international competition) and Chair Tendre (Best series of the French competition).
An unprecedented success also for SERIES MANIA FORUM, which this year reached 3,300 accredited professionals (+30%) from 64 countries at the unmissable international meeting of the television and streaming industry.
Professionals still have access to the Series Mania Digital Forum platform until 31 December 2022 to (re)watch series, conferences, keynotes and pitching sessions.
Among the major initiatives and new features announced this year at SERIES MANIA FORUM:
> the investment by HBO Max of nearly 1 million euros over 3 years in the Series Mania Institute, the series business school created in August 2021. Proof of WarnerMedia's confidence in the talent of the new generation of French and European designers.
> the launch of SeriesMakers, with European content giant Beta Group, a training program for feature film directors who wish to venture into writing a series. 10 projects will be selected and 2 of them will win a development grant of €50,000 and be pitched at the 2023 Forum.
> the signing between SERIES MANIA and Taicca of a historic co-production agreement to facilitate exchanges between Taiwan and Europe.
> the presentation of the Woman in Series Award in association with Pour les femmes dans les medias (PFDM) and European Women’s Audiovisual Network (EWA) to Mo Abudu, CEO, The EbonyLife Group.
The LILLE DIALOGUES summit brought together European and international broadcasters, studios, producers and content creators around the issue of creativity. Margrethe Vestager, Commissioner for Competition and Executive Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of digital, opened this day by affirming a strong will in the current context: to defend our values, in particular freedom and cultural diversity
